Don't Live One, BUILD ONE: Lower Savannah Region's 2014 Annual Youth Forum
More than 400 high school seniors from the Lower Savannh Region participated in the sixth annual Youth Forum hosted by Aiken Technical College and Orangeburg Calhoun Technical Colleges. Participating students learned about careers within the community, gained tools and resources to prepare for life after graduation, and heard firsthand from post-secondary educators and business representatives alike the need to prepare beyond high school for future careers. Colleton County Certified as State's Third Work Ready Community
Colleton County is South Carolina's newest Work Ready Community, joining Clarendon and McCormick Counties. Governor Nikki Haley made the announcement April 28, 2014, after Colleton County, located in the Lowcountry Region, met all workforce and education goals as part of a national initiative for states to strengthen and economic development using a community-based approach. Lower Savannah Regional Education Center (LSREC) has partnered with Southern Carolina Alliance (SCA) to reach local educators and students regarding the importance of education in economic development and manufacturing careers. CHOICE Bus Rolls Into South Carolina
The Choice Bus is a tool created by the Mattie C. Steward Foundation to extend the learning experience of the InsideOut documentary as a way to keep students on the road to a good education. The experience-based learning tool contains a "real" jail cell connected to an interactive learning environment.
